Tyre fitting and alignment

  1. Book or call ahead

Tell us your tyre size (on the sidewall) or your registration and we'll check what's needed. We can usually source tyres same or next day. Book a slot that works for you.

  2. Drop off your vehicle

Come to us at 74-76 Station Rd, Worthing, BN11 1JY. Tyre fitting is typically quick. For alignment checks, allow a little longer.

  3. Fit, balance, and align

New tyres are fitted and balanced as standard. If you've booked alignment, we run the 4-wheel laser check and adjust to your car's exact spec. The tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is reset before you leave.

  4. Collect and drive

We'll show you the alignment printout so you can see the before and after. You leave with balanced, properly aligned tyres and a correctly calibrated TPMS.

Why alignment matters

Most drivers don't think about alignment until something's clearly wrong. By then, the tyres are already paying the price.

When your wheels are out of line, your tyres drag slightly sideways as you drive. That wears the edges down faster, so they need replacing sooner.

Uneven tyre wear

Misaligned wheels scrub the inside or outside edge of your tyres, cutting their life significantly. Alignment pays for itself in tyre savings.

Fuel economy

When wheels aren't pointing straight, the car is constantly working against itself. Correct alignment reduces rolling resistance and improves mpg.

Steering pull

A car that pulls to one side or has a crooked steering wheel almost always has an alignment issue. It's a safety concern, not just an inconvenience.

Handling and safety

Proper alignment means the car responds predictably when you steer or brake. Especially important in wet conditions and emergency situations.

The Auto Empire difference

Exact spec alignment

We use a 4-wheel laser system and align to the exact manufacturer tolerance for your vehicle, not a generic setting that's close enough. The printout shows you the before and after.

Balanced as standard

Every tyre we fit is balanced before the car leaves. No vibration, no high-speed wobble. It's included, not an optional extra you have to ask for.

Honest brand advice

We'll tell you which tyre suits your car and driving style, not which one makes us the most margin. Budget tyres are sometimes fine. Premium tyres are sometimes worth it. We'll explain the difference.

TPMS reset included

TPMS reset is included with every tyre fit. You won't leave with a warning light on the dashboard because we forgot to clear it, or because we charge extra for something that takes 30 seconds.

Tyre FAQs

Everything you need to know about tyres and alignment.

What is the minimum legal tyre tread depth in the UK?

1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre's width, around the full circumference. Most manufacturers recommend replacing tyres at 3mm. Below 1.6mm is illegal and carries a fine of up to £2,500 per tyre plus 3 penalty points.

How do I know if my tyres need replacing?

Use the 20p test: insert a 20p coin into the tread grooves. If the outer band of the coin is visible, your tread is below 3mm and the tyres should be replaced soon. If the band is hidden, you're above 3mm. Bring it to us and we'll check all four and advise honestly.

What is 4-wheel alignment and why does it matter?

4-wheel alignment (also called tracking) measures and adjusts the angles of all four wheels relative to each other and to the road. Incorrect alignment causes uneven tyre wear, poor fuel economy, and steering that pulls to one side. We use a laser alignment system to set your car to the exact manufacturer specification.

How often should I have alignment checked?

Once a year as part of your annual service, or whenever you: hit a pothole or kerb hard, replace tyres, notice the car pulling to one side, or find your tyres wearing unevenly. It's a quick check and cheap to fix when caught early.

Do you carry tyres in stock?

We stock a range of common sizes in popular brands. If we don't have your exact tyre, we can usually source it same-day or next-day. Call us with your tyre size and we'll check availability before you come in.

Can you fit run-flat tyres?

Yes. We can supply and fit run-flat tyres for vehicles that came from the factory with them. Note that run-flats should only be fitted to vehicles designed for them, as the suspension and ride characteristics are calibrated differently.

What is TPMS and do you reset it after fitting?

TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) uses sensors in the wheel to monitor tyre pressure and alert you if it drops. After fitting new tyres or adjusting pressures, the system needs to be reset to recognise the correct pressures. We reset it as standard after every tyre fit.

Is wheel balancing the same as alignment?

No. Balancing corrects weight imbalance in the wheel and tyre assembly, which causes vibration at certain speeds. Alignment corrects the angle of the wheels. Both matter. We balance every tyre we fit as standard.
